Following the “Noah theme” in our lives, (Mattie’s new favorite story is the story of Noah and she uses one of our many empty cardboard boxes as a boat, fills it with stuffed animals and we spray her with water from a spray bottle and act out the story at least once a day…) we found out yesterday that the Kanji (pictograph used in Japanese although borrowed from the Chinese language) for boat contains the symbols for “eight” and “mouths.” Kind of neat connection that there were eight people in the boat that Noah built during the flood!
Oh, and this also happens to be the first Kanji in the name of our city.
