Psa 37:4 Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
During a date with Danielle the other night, we were reminiscing about the history of our relationship and I was reminded of the above verse. The Lord used the truth in this verse to refocus me during my time of wanting to pursue Danielle (prior to us dating) and not being able to do so. As I meditated on this verse, it hit me – my #1 duty is to delight in God. And HE will give me the desires of my heart. In one sense, it is not my responsibility to pursue the desires of my heart. I just delight in Him and entrust these things to Him.
With that thought, I felt God challenging me to revisit this verse and state my new desires. He has GIVEN me all the desires I have given Him in reference to this promise in the past! In light of this, during a teaching at Genesis Metro church, I felt challenged to EXPECT God’s blessings and joy and provision and faithfulness during our time in Japan, even though it is such a spiritually dark and broken place. So, with that said, here are my “new desires…”
The desires of my heart:
1.To continually abide in the love of Christ and experience the security and abundant life that He promises those who trust Him.
2.That God would maximize the glory He can receive in the lives of my family. (immediate and extended)
3. That God would abundantly bless our marriage and that all of our children would grow up loving and fearing God.
4. That the Lord would use us to start a new Church Planting Movement in Japan that actually changes the spiritual temperature of (at least) a region.
Lord, may you lead my heart and all of my intentions into delighting in You day by day…NOT just for the sake of getting what I want but because, ultimately, You ARE the life and my greatest hearts desire and because that is where true satisfaction lies. And the rest is just frosting on the cake….
