"For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea." Habakkuk 2:14

A friend of mine was getting ready to leave to spend a year in a creative access country as a missionary and I wanted to give him a great goodbye gift.  Unfortunately I had 0$ to spend.  So, I thought through some of the most encouraging verses that have spurred me on in ministry and in my relationship with the Lord and I wrote some of them on stationery and put them in an envelope for him.

From one perspective, I felt like it was a sad attempt at doing something nice for him before such an important phase of life.  I didn’t feel like the effort accurately reflected how much I wanted to encourage him and bless him on his way out of the country.

And then, it occurred to me…I was giving him the best gift that one human being can give another.  The Word of God.  It is through the Word that we encounter God.  It is through understanding and believing it that we experience the abundant life that Jesus spoke of.

This thought inspired me to want to share the Word more intentionally and more often.
