where my portion lies

In reading Psalm 17, it says of the wicked, that their “portion is in this life.”

In contrast to that, the Psalmist says his portion is in this:

“As for me, I shall behold Your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be SATISFIED with Your likeness.”

My satisfaction does not come from anything “in this life,” but comes on the day when I wake from “sleep” to see the face of God and am able to stand in His presence because of the righteousness that Christ gives me freely through believing in Him.

THIS is the portion of the believer.
